Adam Gauton - Guitars

Biography

As one half of the band's guitar power house, Adam Gauton has being playing the guitar before he could say "Fender Stratocaster". But who is this enigmatic gentleman, why did he want to play the guitar, which Pink Floyd song means the most to him and, more importantly, what totally pointless superpower would he want?

Describe yourself in three words

Introvert, determined, calm.

What is your favourite Pink Floyd album?

Division Bell, I just love the guitar work and song writing on that album, really beautiful sounds.

What is your favourite Pink Floyd song?

Coming Back to Life – it’s a beautiful song that helped me through some rough times.

Which Pink Floyd song do you enjoy playing the most?

Live I would have to say Young Lust.

What’s your most favourite place you’ve toured?

Russia, it’s such a big place and each town or city is different from the next and the people are lovely.

What’s your most favourite show you’ve ever played?

A gig I played with my band A Joker’s Rage. It was in Manchester SOS festival in 2019. We were headlining and there was a lot of pressure to pull it off but we did :)

Who or what made you want to become a musician?

Noel Gallagher and Jimi Hendrix. I saw them on TV and there was something that drew me in. I loved the way Hendrix played a guitar in such an exciting way.

Outside of Pink Floyd who are your biggest musical heroes and influences?

I would have to say Gary Moore, Matt Bellamy from Muse and Tom Morello. Gary Moore played with such passion you knew what he was feeling at the time he wrote that song. Tom Morello and Matt Bellamy push the guitar to the limit in terms of what sounds it can make so that inspires me to do the same.

If you could play in any other band, past or present, what would it be?

Queen

Give us a quick rundown of your gear?

I use custom guitars, Fender Stratocasters and Kemper amps.

What’s your most favourite bit of gear?

I would have to say my Kemper. They are amazing and ideal for going on tour abroad as you can profile your favourite amps and take them with you.

What advice would you give to any aspiring musician?

If it sounds good to you go with it.

What was the first album you ever bought?

Dangerous - Michael Jackson (on cassette because I didn’t have money for a CD).

Desert Island Disks: which one album and three singles would you take?

Album: Drones by Muse. Singles: Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin), Parisienne Walkways (Gary Moore).

And who would you want to be stuck on the island with?

Gordon Ramsey, he would find stuff to cook and feed me.

What totally pointless superpower would you like?

I would like to have the superpower of being able to drink and not get a hangover. Since turning 30 hangovers have become an issue.

Would you rather be in bed on a Sunday morning or on holiday on a tropical beach?

In bed, coffee in bed with Netflix is weirdly more appealing to me.

Would you rather be incredibly funny or incredibly clever?

Funny, if you can make people smile that’s good.

Would you rather be a famous inventor or a famous writer?

Writer.
